Your eyes fall upon something, and your vision fades and all you see is a memory. A memory triggered by what you saw, or a scent, or even a way something felt. Your vision blurs and all you see is the memory, it comes into focus. The sounds get louder, the image clears up, and you see so clearly the memory that you are reliving.

After it becomes clear, something else starts to happen, you regain the emotions attached to this memory, your heart skips a beat, your body starts to feel warmer, you take a short breath, not wanting to leave this memory behind. You live it, in the moment, and you recall how much you wish for that moment to keep on going.

It makes you feel good to remember, to be in that moment again like you never left it.

You hold on to it, get deeper in it, and all you live is in your memory.

You don’t want to let go, you want to live within it forever.

You miss it.

You long for it.

Cannot wait to feel it again.

Are You Sure?

You hesitate. You think you want to but you stop to think. You weigh the thoughts, the emotions, and the consequences. You measure each outcome, yet you find out that you want more. More of what? You’re not sure, but you know it isn’t enough. You think about how you can make it more. You can’t, not unless things change drastically. You wonder, you still have to make a decision but you aren’t sure yet. What should you do? Which option should you take? You think, yet, you want to make a decision. You were not sure — not then. So, are you sure now?

Lost in a moment

You are in a moment, you are lost, you are not aware. You are in only one place and you do not see or feel what is around you, because at that time nothing else exists but what is in front of you. Your eyes see what is in front of you, you only hear and sense what is in front of you. You do not sense time nor space, you are lost in a universe where only your laws apply. You hear and do what only seems natural.

You awake, not literally but mentally and you begin to hear things, feel things, smell things that were there before but got lost during that moment. The thing in front of you now is blended into the world that you are back in. You feel odd, like you departed from this universe into a special universe that only you could access. Now, you are back. Back into the general universe everyone else belongs to. You think about that moment, how beautiful and wonderful it was. You smile.

Ephemeral moments

Thank you for giving me the experience. These dissipating moments that only leave a slight memory of the world, not complete but still satisfying. The emotions stirred and the way these emotions change the perception with which the eyes do see. A true moment, while gone, is real no less. Recorded in the mind and will be visited once in a while just to reenact a feeling rather than the moment itself. For the moment is not one of view but one of sound and feelings stirred like no other. Thank you.

Being a Teacher

The second lecture of Week one of the Foundations of Teaching for Learning 1: Introduction course has touched on the subject of understanding what it means to be a teacher.

Here is a Think-piece [the attached image] as part of the course that shows what I am, and what I would like to be. Think Piece - What I would like to be

Thinking about this exercise has reminded me of a quote by Phil Collins,

“In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.”

Become an Ambassador

Before I begin what I would like to talk about, let me first say that I have been lacking in my writing. Over the past several months I have been going through a (positive) transformation. I am learning, great things, and I am acting and applying them in my life. I have set a course and a target and feel the wheels turnings. To here is to hoping this is a beginning of a new journey that will lead to a better and more positive lifestyle and life in general.

Back to the topic at hand.

Become an ambassador to where? In my case, to my students.

I’m currently taking on a coursera.org course called Foundations of Teaching for Learning 1: Introduction. In the first lecture, this issue of being an ambassador is mentioned. Now that I think about it, it makes a lot of sense.

In order to be able to teach, and to bring in new information and knowledge to a “people” I would have to enter their world, and in some way use their means to send them my message.

The next time I enter the classroom, I will most likely think about what would an ambassador do? What will be the first course of action as an ambassador? Diplomatic mission? Treaty? Foreign Policy? I wonder.

Kuwait Tech Scene

Within the past several years there have been increasing demand by young people to create and grow a healthy and productive technology community in the country. While there exist societies such as the Kuwait Information Technology Society and the Library and Information Association of Kuwait there is still a need for applied technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, and an increasingly fast paced attraction of global technologies. What currently exists in the country is not enough, and there are people who have stepped forward to bring events to Kuwait that may very well be the beginning of a bright future for technology and the information sciences in Kuwait.

There have been several events during the past week, I’m not sure if it was a coincidence but this week has been very busy.

On Saturday 3rd of November 2012, Barcamp Kuwait 4 was held. It took place in the regency hotel and it started at around 3 pm and finished at about 10 pm. The event was sponsored by Microsoft and there were refreshments and light dinner as well.

The Barcamp event is an unconference, meaning it doesn’t follow standard conference guidelines and it is open to the public, and there are many on-the-spot presentations! If you’re interested in tech in general or tech in Kuwait be sure to check out the events. It is also a great networking opportunity.

All in all, it has been a very eventful week and I have certainly met some very bright people. I’d like to thank everyone who attended and help make these events possible. It is an exciting time and I am sure this is just the tip of the iceberg.

If you happen to know about other events please do share in the comments below.

A Kuwaiti Movie; an Idea

Got an idea for a Kuwaiti movie that can follow the life of a expat, before their arrival, during their stay and the issues they face in Kuwait. I’m sure if is executed correctly it can be a very insightful story. It doesn’t have to be depressing or as a way to uncover the negative things in the country. It can be an eye opener to the life of a foreign worker in Kuwait. How they cope, and what theh go through from good and bad. There is a story that needs to be told. There are people who would love to hear it.
